Pitching Is Everything
It's a FACT in this industry that clarity is everything. If you can't give industry pros, readers or viewers an idea of what your story is ABOUT, it's unlikely you will sell it.
Unfortunately, far too many writers describe 'around' the story or obscure the events of the plot, the storyworld or what the characters want ... and then wonder why they can't nail that sale.
That's why being able to pitch our ideas is a skill in itself -- but 9/10, we writers will be doing this on PAPER, rather than 'in the room'.
I've been in the screenwriting & script editing biz for 20 years, plus I've been a novelist for 6.
I've read COUNTLESS loglines, one pagers, outlines, synopses, treatments and beat sheets during that time. I've also written them myself for my own writing.
This means I am in a unique position to advise you about yours. Pitch Perfect is stacked with actionable tips, tricks and hacks (as well as the usual B2W treasure trove of resources)!
This is where this masterclass comes in!
- 1 x video tutorial. I take you through what pitching entails across the board, from logline through to beat sheet. I also share all my hard-won knowledge as both a script editor for movies AND a novelist and writer for hire. A PDF of all the slides are included for your reference too.

Get REAL on what
Industry Pros Want
Very often, industry pros - such as literary agents, publishers and producers - complain writers write 'only for themselves'.
In other words, writers forget about such important things as target audience or selling their work. They may even say that thinking about such things is 'selling out'!
In this training, Lucy reflects on her own experiences reading the spec pile and writing her own stories.
The Commercial Versus The Dramatic Hook
What's the difference between high concept and character-led stories? Why do some stories really capture popular culture, whilst others sink without trace? Sharing topics such as serial killers, alien abduction, robots and examples such as literary fiction versus crime fiction, dramas like 'Good Will Hunting' and genre movies such as 'Alien', Lucy will take you through what audiences and readers love and WHY.
DOs and DON'Ts
This training is designed to help you identify the key elements of writing loglines, one pagers, outlines, treatments and beat sheets. This in turn will help you build these key elements into your own writing process. Lucy also shares all the BIG MISTAKES and clichés writers fall into in their own pitching documents. With Pitch Perfect's help, you need never worry about whether you are giving industry pros the 'right' stuff ever again!
